Yuichi, the director of Hightide USA has been following this Japanese toy company, Presspop for years.
This soft vinyl figurine is a reproduction of a wooden sculpture of a puppy located at Kōzan-ji Temple in Kyoto, which has been designated as an Important Cultural Property.
The wooden statue from the Kamakura period in the 13th century owned by the famous priest Myo'e of Kōzan-ji Temple. Myo’e has written about his respect and love for dogs in his many writings, and this charming statue which he constantly kept by his side is said to be one of the greatest of all animal sculptures created in Japan.
